YELLOW BREAKFAST in JAMAICA. Breakfast around the world

Shared by Inmaculada Juarros:

SCHOOL YEAR:

6TH YEAR  of Primary Education

SUBJECT:

Breakfast in different countries

TOPIC: Food

Estimated TIME/SESSIONS: 6 sessions

LESSON OBJECTIVE:

-Learn about different types of breakfasts in different countries on all continents.

-To prepare one of these breakfasts.

CONTENTS/SKILLS:

From Australia to India to the USA, children will travel around the world at dawn, when children everywhere are waking up to breakfast.

DESCRIPTION:

Allow students to become familiar with the vocabulary related to food, as well as how to express and ask about likes and dislikes and the knowledge and practice of good habits. We will see several breakfasts around the world to know how different they are.

I also try to make my students to be able to manipulate food and make a recipe with different ingredients.

During the first few sessions, the new vocabulary will be introduced through storytelling, flashcards and some listening activities.

Subsequently, these elements of the language will be practiced, moving from a carefully controlled practice to a free production.

The duration of activities can change depending on the pace of students because there are different levels of work.

We can start by asking the students if they have ever tried a food not Spanish and talking about their own breakfasts, since we have different cultures in the class (Spain, Pakistan, Colombia, Morocco and Brazil).

We recorded on a world map all the countries that we have been talking about.

At the end of this project, they will vote for their favourite and then we will prepare one of these breakfasts.

We will prepare the Jamaican breakfast, which is called “Yellow breakfast” cause almost all the ingredients are yellow like the sun.

We will manipulate the quantities and try the breakfast of the chosen country, we will also be able to learn something else, related to the culture of this country

RECIPE

We can prepare this breakfast in the school canteen, there we have all the kitchen pots and table ware that we need. We will use a small ceramic hob to heat the ingredients, which we will mix inside a saucepan. I will always be aware that is done with care.
