DESCRIPTION: PRE-CLASS ACTIVITY (Preparation task) ·
Students
will be asked to look up on the Internet what Shrove Tuesday is. ·
Students
will be asked to make a list of basic cooking utensils. IN CLASS ACTIVITY/-IES ·
WHOLE CLASS ACTIVITY. Students will
share with their mates what they have found about Shrove Tuesday. They will
also compare their list of basic utensils and explain what these utensils are
used for. o
Eg: What
do you use a whisk for? ·
WHOLE CLASS ACTIVITY: LISTENING
COMPREHENSION. o Students will watch a video about Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day. o
Students
will receive a handout with some comprehension questions about the video. o
Short
discussion about similarities with some traditions in Spain. (orejas de
Carnaval; Flores de Carnaval etc.) o
Vocabulary

COOKING ACTIVITY: (The class will be divided
into groups of 4/5 people) o
Students
watch a video from Vidojug: How to make
English Pancakes. o
Half
of the groups will note down the ingredients and quantities necessary to cook
the pancakes and the other half will take notes which will latear help them
to describe the process. o
One
member from each group will come to the board and write (using their own
words) the recipe for the pancakes. o
Students
will actually practise their cooking skills cooking their own pancake. RECIPE/s:

100g plain flour ·
2 large eggs ·
300ml milk ·
1 tbsp sunflower or vegetable
oil, plus a little extra for frying ·
lemon wedges to serve (optional) ·

STEP 1 Put 100g plain
flour, 2 large eggs, 300ml milk, 1 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil and a
pinch of salt into a bowl or large jug, then whisk to
a smooth batter. ·
STEP 2 Set aside for 30
mins to rest if you have time, or start cooking straight away. ·
STEP 3 Set a medium frying pan or crêpe pan over a medium heat and carefully wipe it with some oiled kitchen
paper. ·
STEP 4 When hot, cook
your pancakes for 1 min on each side until golden, keeping them warm in a low
oven as you go. VOCABULARY: ·
