Be able to use the English language to follow and write different recipes.

CONTENTS/SKILLS:

DESCRIPTION:

Session 1: Create your chef hat

1.   Warm up activity:

Students are organized into mixed-ability groups of four, and they are provided with the necessary materials to carry out the activity. We start by asking them to guess what the activity is going to be about.

2.   Follow the instructions.

Students in their groups have to watch a video of how to make a chef hat. As each group is going to have a tablet, they can stop it and replay it as many times as needed. Students have to support each other to promote collaborative work.

Session 2: Cook the recipe

1.   Students are provided with a recipe that has been cut out into different parts. First, working with their group they have to order the different steps of the recipe. To carry out this activity, students are going to use the 1-2-4 cooperative learning strategy.

2.   Once they text is assembled, they are provided with the necessary ingredients and in groups they have to cook the recipe, which is a chocolate cake.

Session 3: Write a recipe for the Class Cooking Book.

1.   In groups, using the vocabulary of the unit which is related to food, students have to write a recipe, which has to contain a title, the different steps to follow and a picture.

2.   Once all the groups have finished, they have to present it in front of the class.

3.   To assess their work we use a rubric which has been presented to them at the beginning of the lesson, to guarantee that they knew the expectations they had to fulfil.

*To write their recipe students can use the tablets to look for information, which is going to promote the development of the learning how to learn competence and the use of ICTs.

RECIPE:

Wafer tart and Nutella

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of wafers
  • 1 jar of Nutella of 800 gr.
  • To decorate balls, white chocolate shavings, nuts ...

Preparation

  1. We put a large part of the cream in a bowl and put it in the microwave for a minute or two, it is just to make it more liquid and soft and to be able to handle it better, we will do it twice.
  2. We take the plate where we are going to put the cake. Spread the base with a little Nutella cream and put a wafer on top, it will stick.
  3. We spread the first wafer with the Nutella with a spatula, taking care that it does not break, we put another wafer, we spread with the cream and so we will alternate cream and wafers until it is at the height that we want the cake to be.
  4. In the last layer we will put a generous layer of Nutella and we will cover the entire base and the sides well, we will leave the base all very smooth with the spatula to decorate it.
  5. Put on top fruit,  coloured balls, nuts or whatever you like, that sticks well, we will put it in the fridge for a couple of hours so that the chocolate hardens. It will be crispy and very good to cut.
  6. And ready to eat !!!
